Jumpstart is a series of tutorials to orient new students on information they need prior to arrival at BYU. There are 4 types of Jumpstart sessions:
1. Welcome: Dates and Deadlines
Now that you have been accepted to BYU, what's next? We'll cover all the dates, deadlines, and important things to keep in mind as you prepare to start at BYU, ranging from class registration to buying an All Sports pass. We'll also direct you to different offices on campus that are your direct contacts for all your questions and concerns. The session will last for 30 minutes.
2. Class Registration
We'll introduce students to MyMAP, BYU's course registration system, and walk students through the process of planning and registering for classes. We'll also share tips on what classes to take, how many credits to take, AP/transfer credit, waitlisting courses, class searches, and how to contact your academic advisor. The session lasts about 45 minutes.
3. Technology Essentials
We frequently receive questions about what kind of computer and software a student needs. Is a printer necessary? How does wireless work? Does BYU provide an email account? We've teamed up with BYU's Office of Information Technology (OIT) and BYU Computer Store to summarize all the information into a one-hour presentation so you can hit the ground running when you arrive on campus.
4. Financial Planning
How much will college cost and how are you going to pay for it? Many students just think about tuition and housing. But what about books, food, transportation, and social life? We'll cover the standard "cost of living" and share suggestions for each of these expenses. Then we'll provide information on financing options: savings, family financial support, scholarships, federal aid, and student employment.
