BYU Devotionals
What is a devotional?

BYU’s first principal, Karl G. Maeser, (yes, the Maeser building was named after him) was committed to following Brigham Young’s counsel to teach...

“NEITHER THE ALPHABET NOR THE MULTIPLICATION TABLES WITHOUT THE SPIRIT OF GOD.”

To cultivate a religious spirit, Maeser organized daily devotionals. Today we have weekly devotionals where a speaker shares a Gospel-based message. Each devotional begins with a musical number and a prayer.
BYU Forums
What is a forum?

In addition to spiritual messages, the University also invites speakers who share insights that are more secular in nature. Forum speakers expose students to new ways of thinking and viewing the world. From Olympians to friars, these presenters are remarkable people with remarkable experiences. Come gain insight and motivation for your own life and aspirations!
The Winter 2020 Devotional & Forum Schedule
When and Where?

Devotionals and forums are held every Tuesday at 11:05 AM. During Fall and Winter semesters they take place in the Marriott Center. Most devotionals (not all) are broadcast live on BYUtv, BYUtv.org, KBYU-TV 11, Classical 89 FM, BYU Radio, and will be archived on speeches.byu.edu.

Attendance
Why should I go?

BYU hopes that every student makes time each week to attend the devotional or forum. Classes are not held during this time and campus employees are also expected to attend. This is a unique opportunity to enhance your education as you listen to some of the world’s most accomplished and inspired men and women.

Past speakers have included the Prophet and many from the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, Mitt Romney,  Joe Lieberman, Elaine Dalton, and Ed Catmull (President of Pixar). View this semester's schedule here

Devotional Book

New students are given a high-quality notebook to record their thoughts and impressions at forums and devotionals. If you did not get one at NSO, contact your peer mentor.
This past week, the devotional was by President and Sister Worthen. Watch it below if you didn't make it! (Or re-watch it)
